Una banda, capitaneada por Lars Ullrich, que siempre está de actualidad. Este libro es un recorrido fotográfico a cargo del fotógrafo musical Ross Halfin, por todos esos momentos que los han convertido en lo que son y que harán las delicias de fans. Estas instantaneas nos permiten ser espectadores privilegiados de sus giras. Así podremos conocer, desde dentro, el universo Metallica.

Lleva ya casi un mes en las librerías una novela que se está vendiendo bien y que creo recomendable. “La delicadeza” del autor francés David Foenkinos. Una novela, si nos fijamos en la temible fajita anunciadora, que ha recibido la friolera de 10 premios en francia.
Es la historia de Nathalie, una mujer que se puede considerar afortunada en la vida, que un día ve como todo se hace pedazos al fallecer su marido atropellado. Nathalie deberá recomponer su vida, afrontar el dolor y caminar hacia delante, que no queda otro remedio. Afrontar el fallecimiento de un ser querido para seguir viviendo.

Share“Emaús” Alessandro Baricco.
Pienso en Baricco y se me viene a la cabeza su estilizada prosa. Un buen ejemplo es la exótica “Seda” o “Novecento”, que dio pie al film “la leyenda del pianista en el océano”, protagonizada por Tim Roth y dirigida por el gran Tornatore ( Cinema Paradiso ).
Su última novela, “Emaús”, y tal vez haya aquí mucho de autobiográfico, se centra en entorno a un grupo de cuatro jóvenes adolescentes italianos que cuentan sus vivencias propias de su edad marcadas por la rigidez de la educación católica. El relato intenta mostrar las consecuencias no de una educación católica en sí misma, pero si de a dónde puede llevar una digamos aplicación de la misma mal entendida.
Share“Los acuarios luminosos” Sophie Bassignac
“Los acuarios luminosos” es un libro que nos ha llamado la atención ahora que ha salido en edición de bolsillo, editado por Debolsillo. Más que nada por lo que reza la contraportada: “Una joven parisina hipocondríaca, una portera chismosa, un apuesto japonés amante del silencio, una niña de gran sensibilidad, un nuevo vecino misterioso…”
Recuerda demasiado a “La elegancia del erizo”, lo de la portera, la niña sensible, el japonés….
Sacadnos de dudas, ¿se parecen tanto ambas novelas como deja entrever la contraportada, o como seguro que es así, no se parecen en nada?
Contadnos.
Tiene buena pinta, pero guarda algunas similitudes con el buen libro de Muriel Barbery que queríamos nos resolvierais.

Share“Cry Freedom” OXFORD BOOKWORMS STAGE 6
The book, published for students of English by Oxford Bookworms level 6, is based on the true story of Steve Biko, the charismatic South African black conciousness movement leader, and Donald Woods, the liberal white editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper.
The autor of the book is John Briley. He’s an american journalist and writer. Is best Known for writing the screensplay for “Gandhi“, the 1982 epic movie which made him win an Oscar for best original screenplay. In 1987 wrote the script for “Cry Freedom”. The film starred Denzel Washingtown as Stephen Biko and Kevin Kline as Donald Woods. The film was based on two factual books written by Donald Woods after he scaped from South Africa. “Biko” ( 1978 ) and “Asking for trouble: the autobiography of a banned journalist” ( 1980 ).
The film was produced and directed by Richard Attenborough and was so popular than Briley wrote a novel based on the screenplay.
The scenes were shot in Zimbawe and Zaire ( Rep. of Congo nowadays ) because the ban of the South African government.
The film ends with a large list of anti-apartheid activist who died while there were under police custody, with the “causes of death” given by the police. For instance: ” self-strangulation”, “falling downstairs”, and, the case of Biko, “hanger strike”.
The story plays in november 1975 in the South East of South Africa in the city of East London. In this city Donald Woods, an editor of the Daily Dispatch, gets news of a police raid in the black township Crossroads, in Cape Town. He also gets photos of the raid and writes an editorial about a black young man who is shown in the picture. Biko, who has already been banned by the government. He was not allowed to be in the same room with more than one person outside his inmediate family, and not allowed to write anything for either public or private consumption. In addiction, he was not allowed to leave his defined banning area.
Initially Woods is critical of Biko’s views and actions, but is persuaded to meet him. Biko’s invites Woods to visit a black township to see the empoverished conditions and to witness the effect of the government imposed restrictions which make up the apartheid system.
Biko also shows Woods a clinic for black people. In the clinic work Doctor Manphela Ramphele. She’s a black young woman who helps Woods to change his mind about Biko. Woods begins to agree with Biko‘s desire for a South Africa where blacks have the same opportunities and freedoms as those enjoyed by the white population. As Woods comes to understand Biko’s points of view, a friedship develops between them. Six weeks after Wood gives two friends of Biko a job in his newspaper. One of them was Mapetta. Mapetta takes Woods to a football match of the black people. Instead of the match Biko holds a speech. After the speech Biko is caught by the police. In the police office Biko gets hit bay Captain De Wet. The police one night smash all things of value in the church where Biko wants to make a center for Black people. Woods can’t print this in his newspaper because the witness is a black man called Dilima. Woods speaks with the minister of police about the incident and because that, he has a lot of problems because the police want to know the name of the witness from Woods. Mapetta and the other one working in the Wood‘s newspaper, Tenjy, get arrested. The police don’t want to give information about the two, and after a week, Mapetta is dead. the official explanation of Mapetta’s death is that he hanged himself. But Biko and Woods can’t believe this, and though Biko request to the judge about this, the judge close this without fix the death of Mapetta on anybody.
In September 1977 Biko was arrested, tortured. Unconciousuness, Hhe was not brought to the nearest hospital. During the journey to Pretoria he died. The day after thar, Biko‘s wife and Woods went to the mortuary and took photos of Biko’s body. Woods was banned and his family received some poison. In the funeral Woods and his wife were there, and thousand of black people.
Woods started to write a book about Biko‘s life, and after speaking with some friends, he comes to a decision: if he published the book, he and his family have to escape.
31 st December ( new year’s eve ) he was able to escape to Lesotho, disguised as a priest. From there he met his family and got passports from United Nations, and after that, they flew away.
PERSONAL OPINION
This book offers an interestin story. In my opinion reading the novel allow you to know the reality of black people in South Africa in the seventies. Is a chance for remember Biko’s philosophy. The plot is very interesting, specially because is based on a true story

Ha fallecido el poeta chileno Gonzalo Rojas
Queremos hacer eco de una mala noticia para el mundo de las letras, el fallecimiento a la edad de 93 años, del poeta Chileno Gonzalo Rojas, nacido en 1917, exiliado de Chile tras el golpe de Pinochet en 1973, que fuera Premio Reina Sofía de Poesía Iberoamericana en 1992, Premio Nacional de Literatura en Chile en 1992 y Premio Cervantes en 2003, autor de “Oscuro” ( 1977 ), “Transtierro” ( 1979 ), “Del relámpago” ( 1981 ) “Zumbido” ( 1991 ) , “Materia de Testamento” ( 1988 ), publicada por Hiperion, “Poesía esencial“, ( 2006 ) o la más reciente “Con arrimo y sin arrimo” ( 2010 ).

Con lo difícil que es acertar con un regalo, lo mejor es dar dinero. El problema es que no siempre quedas bien dando dos billetes de veinte euros o uno de cincuenta.
